Black & White Wednesdays ~ See-through

Transparency inspires me.
I long to live fearlessly, exposing my heart.
I pray to live truthfully, sharing my real thoughts.
I strive to live openly, learning always. Always learning.
Transparency moves me.
I want to see you. See into you.
I don't ever take for granted the chance to know someone.
It's such an honor when someone lets you step into their soul ~ even just a little bit.

Dragonfly wings inspire me.
They're magically transparent!
When I was taking this shot, I was focused on the intricate design of each wing.
And I was trying to capture the light as it reflected off of the wing's delicate surface.
Little did I know, the real magic in the photo would be the shadow of the wing.
The shadow that showed up underneath.

A shadowy depth that would have never been revealed if not for the wing's transparency.

Window Dressing

What would you do if you had about a half an hour to wait for your husband
outside his office building on a Sunday afternoon?
Me?
I spent the time taking photos...of course.
Fall is starting to show off up here in New England ~ and that is good...oh, so good!
Doubly good when you see all this goodness reflected in the
mirrored windows of his office.

After a little wait....and after tons of photos of leaves...
you decide a random selfie is a must.

Then you turn a corner,
and have some real fun trying to capture
a double selfie!!

{good thing for my husband, I'm very easily amused!}

Sunshine and Swans!

Beautiful swan family out for a swim on the back waters at Horn Pond.
The sun was so bright, that the mom and dad swan were almost glowing!

The two kiddos hung pretty close together - always good to see siblings getting along.

And I love it when Papa struts his stuff!

Six Word Fridays ~ Trip

Can you hear the tender melody?

It floats on the breeze...as
sunbeams and wispy clouds trip the
light fantastic across the autumn sky.

Never Too Late

as i walk
a new path,
each and every day,
shedding so many old ways,
i seek understanding

when the clouds hang low
and cover the landscape
of my mind;
shadows win...
i loose heart

one step
and then another;
feeling my way,
senses alert...my body unsure,
unsteady,
but still i take another step

and then
there it is

the light
the warm, clarifying, spectacular light

it appears but briefly
ever so swiftly breaking through;
bringing with it just enough strength
enough hope to believe
its not too late

and to keep me
moving forward along the new path...
guiding me through understanding
towards
healing

Black & White Wednesdays ~ Leaves

"Nature will bear the closest inspection.
She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf,
and take an insect view of its plain."

Maudslay State Park ~ Newburyport, MA

"Well, the sun's not so hot in the sky today
and you know I can see summertime slipping on away.
A few more geese are gone, a few more leaves turning red,
but the grass is as soft as a feather in a feather bed.
So I'll be king and you'll be queen our kingdom's gonna be this little patch of green.
Won't you like down here right now in this September grass?
Won't you lie down with me now, September grass."
James Taylor

In the horse and carriage days,
these fields were home to the genteel.
Not kings or queens, mind you, but 18th century moneyed New Englanders.
Seasons came and went as generations of a wealthy family
played and rode and entertained here.
Perhaps the young wandered from the manicured lawns,
away from watching eyes,
and found recluse among the tall grass and wildflowers
on the wooded edge of the estate.

Today, this gorgeous property is open to all;
so any of us 'normal folk' can wander here.
Wander and imagine...

...and enjoy the crisp air as summertime slips away.

Here Come the REDs!!

Have I ever mentioned that I'm so glad this place exists?
Just five minutes from my house,
it's so easy to loose myself in the woods that surround Horn Pond.
And, sometimes, lost is exactly what I need!
We had a weekend of three random "catastrophes."
One minor car accident.
One washing machine over flowing.
Hard boiled eggs - forgotten on the stove until they pop.

So, when life's random surprises feel more negative than positive,
I head to the pond.
To be reminded of all that's good and lovely.
To have some fun climbing my hill and exploring new paths.
To clear my mind and shake it all off!
Yesterday's crisp, damp air and the hints of red all around
filled me with anticipation for autumn's wonderful colors!!

Six Word Fridays ~ Fall

One leaf, nestled in the dewey
morning grass, whispers wistfully of fall.

A chilly rain gently coaxes the
first leaves from the towering trees.

Splashes of color catch the light
and begin to alter the landscape.

Shhhh.....

It matters not where I am.

There's no specific season required.

Alone is fine.
But with my love, a friend or a group...well...that works too.

The place is of no consequence.
A bustling city is fine.
Or a ball field.
A pond is always ok with me.

Though I will say
that a rain and dew drenched patch of weeds along the side of a country road
adds some magic to the stillness.

Stillness.
Calm.
Peace.
In the midst of the bustle and business it's important to me to
be able to find quiet when I need to.
When I want to.

I'm blessed to know that there's one sure place
that I can always find
some soul soothing quiet.

Behind the lens.

Behind the lens I am in the moment.
Awake,
Aware.
The lists and noises and stresses and minutes fall away.
And I'm
just
there,
savoring the world around me.
