Oregon ~ Day Seven {Bigger Picture Moment}
If, in fact, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take
but by the moments that take our breath away ....
then I am rich, indeed.
The sheer magnitude of this place - depth, breadth, width, height - took my breath away.
At first glance I stood daunted, transfixed.
Mesmerized.
This was a moment that I've imagined. Wished for...no, longed for.
And this was a moment that exceeded any and all of my expectations.
The dramatic story that the earth tells in this place, took my breath away.
The delicious view from every angle, each perspective, took my breath away.
The dizzying effect of the cavernous drop to the water took my breath away.
The dazzling, sun kissed water took my breath away.
The walls of the crater seemed painted in places...
the subtlety of rock on rock and the shades of clay - took my breath away.
The patches of unmelted snow on this ninety-five degree day brought a smile ...
... and, defying all reason, took my breath away!
In this space, I was small.
Yet my being there ...as small as I might be... was significant.
At the edge of Crater Lake I was reminded to stand in awe of its Creator.
At the edge of Crater Lake I remembered this:
"If I have a hope, it's that God sat over the dark nothing and wrote you and me, specifically, into the story, and put us in with the sunset and the rainstorm as though to say, Enjoy your place in my story. the beauty of it means you matter, and you can create within it even as I have created you."
- Donald Miller, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years
I was, indeed, thrilled to pass through this place,
and share a few breath-taking moments with the critters who call the crater home.

The earth really does tell a story there. You are so right. I find the blue of that water to be so compelling. I just couldn't take my eyes of it especially in the one where it is rippling and bouncing sunlight.
