Mid-Air

Taking a photograph of a flying insect doesn't often work for me.
My camera and I have a very
trial-and-error
relationship.

The good thing is,
I enjoy trying.
It's possible that I enjoy the process of trying to get a certain photo
even more than seeing the actual outcome.
Until...

Until that magical moment when
the light catches the wing...
and the camera
catches the light
that catches the wing.

Then, for just a wee second, I believe I can fly.

Six Word Fridays ~ Hold

With a whisper, and a wish
and a woosh of the wind
tiny seeds set sail. As this
letting go season comes to an
end, each pod breaks wide open
and sets her wispy babies free.

With a whisper, and a wish
and a melting of the heart,
we don't hold on too tight.
We do not hold our babies
back....but with smiles, tears and
prayers, we watch them fly away!

Six Word Fridays ~ Fade

As autumn's glory fades to brown,
we settle in, we hunker down...

Her blustery winds chill the air
and blow the crisp leaves everywhere...

Reds and golds have taken flight,
clearing the way for winter's white.

Six Word Fridays ~ Purple

My misty pond one chilly morn...

...and lovelorn swans under twilight's glow.

Nature casts her spell on us...

...as we stand eager and ready
to capture her majestic purple glaze.

Six Word Fridays ~ Orange

Set against the towering maple, this
abandoned house ~ this eyesore of the
neighborhood ~ seems to be almost beautiful.

Under the vibrant, orange canopy, her
broken glass, peeling paint, cracked bricks
and drooping shutters bother no one.

These, after all, are the weeks
where ghosts and goblins come alive...

...and scary houses spark our imagination.

Six Word Friday ~ Yellow

The changing yellows of a simple
wilting flower, catch my eye and
grab my heart. As the bright
petals surrender to autumn's chill, they
fade, fold, wilt and let go.

Have I Stayed Too Long at the Fair?

Few things say summer like a county fair.
Those carnival rides, the smell of fried dough...
Here in Oregon there's the added thrill of the sun setting over the mountains.
As children giggle and teens hold hands,
the older folks wander, watch and wax nostalgic.

Sunrise & Superbells

I was awake before the sun this morning.
So I went outside on my favorite deck and watched the
early morning light play with the flowers.
These flowers, I'm told, are called Superbells.
And that they are - super belle!

Perfect for my first day in Oregon.

My Oregon Adventure....

...begins next week!!

There will be breathtaking scenery...

...just like this...

...outside the car window wherever I go!

{even if it's just to Lowe's!}

The air will hold the scents of sage...

...and juniper...

...and I will {yet again} be held captive by Oregon's magic spell!

Six Word Fridays ~ Faithfulness

The evening sky called me to
the pond...with drama and promise.

As the fading light played along
the path, dancing just for me,

I watched the swaying of golden
stems, so taken by the breeze.

With each twist of the wooded
path, new images caught my eye ~

a fresh shade, a taller stalk,
a flicker, a whisper, a reflection...

Before long, the soft glow of
the golden hour painted the landscape,

and every ripple, cloud, branch and
bloom was made new, yet again.

Oh, these evenings...this place so
familiar, yet never exactly the same...

teaching me faithfulness, showing me steadfastness...
holding my hand as I walk,

listening to each of my thoughts
and generously revealing her deepest secrets.

Like the friend who knows me
as well as I know myself...

or the husband who reads my
heart, and untangles my thoughts....

on this path I am safe
and known... just as I am
inspired ~ dazzled by each new surprise!
