Mid-Air

Taking a photograph of a flying insect doesn't often work for me.
My camera and I have a very
trial-and-error
relationship.

The good thing is,
I enjoy trying.
It's possible that I enjoy the process of trying to get a certain photo
even more than seeing the actual outcome.
Until...

Until that magical moment when
the light catches the wing...
and the camera
catches the light
that catches the wing.

Then, for just a wee second, I believe I can fly.

Six Word Fridays ~ Fall

It's like a fancy card trick,
or the rabbit in the hat...

Take the afternoon light, add in
a few petals and set them
all against a backdrop of green.

Point that 50mm lens...and click!
Hocus pocus ~ the spell is cast.

The camera works its magic ~ and
I'm not embarrassed to admit that
I fall for it every time!

Hunting Amongst the Wildflowers!

About a mile down the road from me is a town run soccer field.
This field used to sit next to an old, abandoned house
and stayed overgrown and unused for years.
About two years ago the town tore down the old house
and leveled the field...
It's fun to drive by and see the field full of children and families,
flags, nets and balls.
But I must say that, in this season of abundant wildflowers,
I prefer to wander the sidelines of the empty field
and chase scavenger hunt photos amid the blooms!

I like this silly stem ~ sticking out up above the others.

Or this silly purple bloom, taking a bow just for me!

Then there's this little guy,
out for a spin to collect some pollen.

In this shot, I see four full blooms
strutting their stuff.

The fun is in the photo-taking.
The guilty pleasure?
Photo-editing!

I could edit and edit and edit....all the live long day.

And, as for the rule of thirds....

....the opportuinities were countless!

Road Side Charm

Clear Skies

Old Barns

Mountain Peaks

Hay Stacks

When in Oregon...
we do a lot of driving.
Which is OK
because the scenery is a feast for the eyes!
Here are a few ranch/barn shots
I played with.
Oh, I do love the wild, wild west!

Black & White Wednesdays ~ Swan-a-razzi

They come to the pond from near and far
to see those baby swans.
Look at the joy on their faces!

I mean...what's not to love?!?

In My Own Little World

I love the macro world.
I'm not fancy,
or really well equipped...
but my iPhone and I enjoy trying to capture
all things miniature.

I was wandering yesterday,
and found some moss on an old stone wall.
It was nice to see the bright green of new growth
that's been hiding under the snow!

Perhaps it's all the St. Patty's day talk,
but can't you just imagine a little leprechaun
peeking out from behind one of these mossy buds.
Or a microscopic little fairy coming to light on one of them?

There's something about this miniature world
that completely captures my imagination!
When I step back from the macro lens
and just look at the old stone covered with a mossy carpet,
it's like there's nothing to see.
But, in reality, there's a whole,
beautiful,
magical,
macro world waiting to be discovered!

My friend Kathy chose a song for her weekly link-up today
that was one of my all time childhood favorite songs.
Cinderella sings it.
From her own little corner,
in her own little chair near the cinder-filled fire place she cleaned,
she could let her imagination soar!
And suddenly she wasn't little or insignificant,
but she became whatever she wanted to be!
I remember all the dreaming and imagining I did as a child,
safe in my own little corner.

It seems to me that it's harder to keep
our dreaming and imagining selves alive the older we get.
But this macro world...
well, it transports me and my imagination!
Which always makes me glad to be
back in my own little corner,
in my own little world.

Seasons & Wisdom

I'm grateful for the seasons.
I'm grateful to live in a place where we experience each season....wholly and fully.
I'm grateful for photography.
I'm grateful to have discovered how much I love this hobby
and to have the means and health and time to explore the worlds around me
through the lens.
I'm grateful for blogging.
I'm so very, very grateful for the friendship connections I've made
through this space.
I'm grateful that you continue to come visit me and
so enjoy heading to your place for tea and a chat.

One of the things I've discovered over the past few years of creating content
for this space
{and for my Project 365}
is how much I love combining quotations and images.
I know I'm not alone in this!!
In searching for quotes on line
I've encountered authors and naturalists,
philosophers and poets...
Some that are new to me and many that have come into clearer focus.
I've purchased books,
explored websites
and enjoyed learning
from great hearts and minds...
Putting a quote with an image seems to cement these lessons into my being.
Today I've chosen a few of my favorites to share.

Doorknobs and Details

I was speaking with a friend this morning -
a friend who woke up with the winter blues.
She told me she had cranked the stereo and rocked out
{singing and dancing}
all the way to work.
She said, "It's the little things."
And it's true.
Sometimes when things feel hard, cold, dreary or blah
it helps to make that choice to focus on a bright spot.
To find comfort in a special cup of coffee,
escape with the pages of a good book
or dance and sing out loud to your favorite sound track.

For me,
getting behind the lens is something that always -
yes, I'll say it again -
always reminds me that there's beauty in the little things.
It just takes a few minutes
and I'm transfixed, transported.
For those who visit 'little things' each week I know you know what I mean!

Last weekend, my time alone with the camera was extra fun.
At the beautiful Copley Plaza hotel
some of the doorknobs are have been around so long they're crooked.
Others have been added to modern locks.
It's fun to wander the halls and try to decide which details
are one century old and which have been added along the way.
