Snowy Morn, Silent Night...

it was a rough weekend
physically
suffice it to say, i've enjoyed two days of chicken broth and saltines
when i awoke saturday morning,
it was snowing.
i drug myself out of bed around 11,
bundled up
and went out under the flakes to capture the new blanket of white
snow kissed branches
one of my favorite sights
and the silence
there's nothing that sounds like the falling snow
how does it work it's magic?
such peace
even on our busy street i felt momentarily lost in a forest
tonight's silence comes, not with snow,
but with lights
you know, that moment...
after everyone else is in bed
and you're alone in the dark with the sparkling christmas tree
might be my favorite thing about this time of year
peace, perfect peace

There is...

...such beauty
as the earth lets go
and
surrenders
to the season of rest.

Autumn Sunset

"Clouds come floating into my life,
no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky."

Honor

...walking through this quiet place,
looking for foliage,
but noticing names...
searching for the beauty in the trees and skies above,
yet drawn to the granite that tells many different stories.

So many of the life stories told here
include a chapter -
perhaps long, perhaps short -
of service to our country.
Marked with flags and emblems
these graves remind me
that generations have come and gone...
and through each generation honorable men and woman
have served
and given their lives to keep us free.

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day (now Veterans Day) for November 11, 1919.
In proclaiming the holiday, he said:

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice int the councils of the nations."

Sunday Morning

My husband and I took a walk.
The air was crisp and the sky went from bright blue to soft gray.
The leaves.
Oh the leaves.
Turning, falling, dancing...
putting on a wonderful show for us.

But I think it was the statues...
so still
so serene
standing tall
bowing gently
through years
and hundreds of seasons
Yes...
I think it was the statues that really caught my eye
and touched my heart.

So happy to be sharing these shots

My 'Grand'puppy!

We have a new family member.
My daughter and her husband have a four month old puppy, Max.
He came to his uncle's soccer game on Saturday...
...and tried to cheer him up after a tough loss.
Isn't he adorable?!!

and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings,
as now in October."

The Beautiful Blue Heron

My Sunday walk around Horn Pond started normally enough.
I parked and walked right to the edge of the pond.
There a few ducks (as usual) swimming around
and a couple of bright red maple leaves floating on the water.
Suddenly the big Blue Heron flew right in front of me!
I'd never seen him so close to the edge of the lot.
He set down and waded around the edge of the pond.

  Isn't he pretty?
I followed him until I couldn't see him any more, then took off walking.
As I got to the top of the first hill under the trees,
an elderly couple were stopped and staring up.
The woman said she'd seen the heron fly up to the top of the trees.
What?
I'd seen him fly before, but never up into the trees.
Sure enough, there he was.
Sunning.
Stunning.
Posing for me!
Such a gift!
These are almost straight out of the camera.
I cropped a bit, and removed some of the leaves that were distracting.
Enjoy!

So excited to "show off" these shots!
