Lean on Me

Meet Bob - my father in law.
And his deer.
They're becoming really good friends.
This lovely guy stops by almost every day to visit...

...eat some corn...

...and some fruit.

He and Bob have a little chat.

Then Bob's very, very lovely wife lets Bob's friend munch on her flowers.

He wanders around the yard - sometimes laying down for a rest.

After all that munching, he needs a little drink.

If you're lucky, he'll strike a pose...

....before one last little snack.
And he's on his way.

When I'm in Oregon, surrounded by farms and constantly wowed by mother nature,
I'm reminded of an interdependence that seems
meant to be.
My in laws care for all the birds, chipmunks, cats, bunny rabbits
and deer
that come and visit them.
All the critters are home here.
Just as I've always been!

When I listen to the song "Lean on Me" I hear a plea to just get real
and admit we need each other.
Sometimes I'll have my act together, sometimes you will...

"Lean on me, when you're not strong,
And I'll be your friend. I'll help you carry on.
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.
You just call on me brother when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on."

I'm gonna miss Bob, his sweet wife...and his handsome deer.
But I'll bring home with me this sweet kindness...

...this reminder of how good it can be when we learn to rely on each other.

Excited to be linking up with Kathy for

  2. Wow that is just awesome! I can't imagine how exciting it would be to get this close to that buck. I do agree that he needs to be careful but I'm sure he probably knows that. Amazing connection between man and animal. Your thoughts behind this series were spot on.

  6. What a lovely story and memory to have. And that fact that it's a buck is great. You'll have to continue to take photos over time to capture the growth of his rack. Happy Sunday!

  12. that's wonderful. I can't help but think that it's a shame to see them have to live like this though. They become dependent on the Bob's and when Bob moves the next home owner may not be so kind.
