I want....

"If you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
'Cause there's a million things to be
You know that there are"
Cat Stevens

I want...
Perhaps one of the hardest ways for me to begin a sentence.
I'm really good with the
"I shoulds"
"I wills"
and
"I coulds"

I'm good at figuring out what's expected of me
and making promises
and offering my services and ideas for review and acceptance.

But asserting myself?
Hmmmmm.
That takes practice!
It's taken me years, as an older adult,
to even know how I would finish the sentence,
"I want...."

As I've gotten to know myself better,
I have figured out some of those wants
and have even been known to express them now and again!
This song expresses the joy
and the freedom that comes with owning
and celebrating our choices.

  6. Great song lyrics, I like Cat Stevens.
Lovely photo to go with it and I think your words really showed that we can indeed grow if we only allow ourselves to do so.

  8. Okay honestly, I'm not usually a fan of texture work on photography BUT....this one is def the exception to my rule! Makes me think I should open up my mind more and give it a whirl myself. Beautiful photograph, and poignant thoughts. Thank you for sharing at Song-ography.

  9. Beautiful image and words that I can relate to. I often know what I want, but rarely ask or express those desires. My first line of battle has been learning to say no to others. A hard thing.
