What do you see?

"It's not what you look at that matters,
it's what you see."
Henry David Thoreau

That simple, every day moment.
I gather my lunch and my purse, check the cell, pick up the keys and walk out the door.
Down the four side steps, across the the driveway... I head for the car.
The day is in full swing.
Skies are clear, the air is crisp and the sun warms me with its glow,
even if I can't feel its heat.
These are some of the most ordinary of moments.
I take the same few steps,
look at the same white fence, the leafless bushes and the old black car....just about every day.

Yesterday, my oh-so-ordinary steps were interrupted by the
stunning, artistic display of frost on the roof of my car!
There it was, catching the morning rays.
Gatsby-like, art deco fan patterns.
And feathers!
All waiting to greet me,
to remind me not just to look....
but to really see.

  1. OH.MY....that is so cool! I love that quote, it's on the sidebar of my blog I love it so much. I'm a wee bit jealous as I've been hoping for just a tiny bit of frost to photograph. But I think my chance has come to an end as we are warming up a bit. Have a great day!

  2. Whoa! I always leave in the dark and just put on the defrosters, never see the cool frost patterns!

  3. I was thinking plumes, too! Very intricate and even geometric in a way. I can't say I have ever seen frost like this.

  6. You are having the most astounding winter beauty. We are either deadly cold or spring-like here. Just one day of swirly frost and my season would be made!

  9. Amazing, and the light on these swirls is perfect. I LOVE the quote -- and it goes so well with the frost. I'm not sure I would have noticed something like that on my car at 6:30 a.m. before my second cup of coffee!
