One of the best things about the back door of my childhood home, is that there were two screen doors to let slam before I reached the yard. The first was at the back of the kitchen, and the second on the other side of the tiny back porch. For some reason, my goody-two-shoes self enjoyed this tiny act of rebellion. Even if I was careful with the first door, so as not to "hear about it" later, that second door was waiting to be released, snapping back with a bang, as I ran out to freedom!
Japanese magnolia blossoms...walls of ivy...giant oaks...forsythia...beds of pachysandra and lily of the valley.
A tree house...a rope swing..a bat and some balls...a dog to chase and fireflies to catch.
My back door.
The back yard.
A childhood path to freedom!
This lovely morsel of my childhood is nestled safely in a scrapbook.
And today...this simple photograph, in an album spread out by the back door, took me back.
Took me home.

ReplyDeleteA great post!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a nice Sunday!
Love the memory of slamming the back door on your way to a childhood of imagination and fun in the backyard. Brings up images of my own backyard adventures as a kid.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny what memories stay with us so clearly from childhood. I love that you still have a photograph of this. Great for today's theme!
ReplyDeleteAmen to back doors and the simple pleasures of childhood they lead us to! It def was another time. And THAT is a shame. Thanks for joining in at Song-ography.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful memories!! I remember that slam of the screen door on my childhood porch too - the sound of fresh air and freedom!
ReplyDeletebeing able to slam the door is one of the best things about screen doors! the other is hearing the squeak. thanks for sharing and bringing me back to my childhood home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous home! I love it. Had to laugh about those slamming doors. We have 2 door slammers and one who cant seem to close a door. Sad that those days of freedom are long gone.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! The screen door slam! My husband and I were talking the other day about enclosing out back porch because I needed to have a screen door slam noise somewhere in my house. Love that noise! Brings so many memories flooding back!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely house and yard. Glad you have that memory.
ReplyDeleteLiving walls like in your first picture are my favorite, too. They instantly make a building romantic.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful childhood home...and memory!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you still slam your back door ... it is still, after all, a pathway to a few moments of freedom. Life has a way of tying us to responsibility, but I find when I am on my way, in the car, alone, I feel that same moment of freedom. Isn't life grand :)

the back door to my parents house, always spelled freedom!!
ReplyDeletefunny i think of it just that way, "my parents house", it never felt like home :(
i got caught up in my thoughts, i love your image!!
ReplyDeleteSlamming the back door - a rite of passage of childhood. We don't have any screen doors on our house - which is a bummer and has probably scarred my children for life. I have failed them.
ReplyDeleteGood job on this tune.
