"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak;
courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."
Winston Churchill
courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."
Winston Churchill
Interesting, isn't it...
When something is true, it's also timeless.
In this day and age of everyone voicing an opinion
{or two or three}
I fear that courageous listening is becoming a lost art.
I want to be someone who can
learn from those who think differently than I do.
I never want to forget to be a really, really good listener.
I want to be someone with strong principles and ideals
who also has an open mind and heart.
The older I get,
the less concerned I am with making sure my opinion is heard
and the more I want to be able to
admit when I'm wrong.
The more I want to listen...
and, yes, listen attentively enough to actually have my mind changed from time to time!

ReplyDeleteA noble and wonderful goal - stunning images!!
ReplyDeleteIn #1, talk about sticking your neck out!
ReplyDeleteI have a few scheduled "reminders" pop up on my iWatch to help me with such goals as what you've listed. 'Listen' is among them. I have historically been determined, headstrong and obstinate about standing my ground and making my point. But lately I have found greater comfort in listening and taking the 'live and let live' approach. Older and wiser - perhaps.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Dubai! Beautiful!! Have a great day. Will be back soon...

There is something special about a good listener, and someone who is able to really consider other views!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots!
ReplyDeleteI love that quote and it is to very true! Lovely images as always!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography, inspired thoughts!
ReplyDeleteAdrienne both these shots are beautiful and just show how wonderful nature is. - Your thoughts were great as well.
ReplyDeletethank you, thank you, thank you... I was just curious, hopped by after sharing at Communal Global, saw your beautiful, beautiful potos and then kept on Reading. There is no way you could have known that today (this past month) has been quite terrible for someone somewhere out there. Your words were exactly what I needed to read, today, right now. So, once again, thank you. Claudia
ReplyDeleteListening is one of the hardest skills!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures in B&W. Lovely reflection in the first one!

I so agree with both Churchill and you. Listening is becoming a lost art.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote! I've heard that we tend to think of what we'll say next instead of listening. Love the photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing timeless words of wisdom and your thoughts as well.
ReplyDeleteA woman speaker once said: 'just because you're right; doesn't mean you have to say so'. The older I become the more I see the wisdom of this too.
Beautiful words to go with the lovely images!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and words!
