When I was a young teen, my mom used to tease me about having a disease known {only to her} as new-itis. She'd laugh at how fast I had to wear or use anything that I bought. If it was new clothes, I'd surely wear the outfit the very first chance I'd get. If it was a new record {yes, you read that right} I'd play it over and over and over from the minute I brought it home. For some reason this amused her greatly!
These days I'm all about old stuff. About gently used clothes. About memorabilia, photos and objects that carry meaning ~ that have sentimental value. About re-purposing and sharing and creatively gifting things that are precious to me. Even as we get ready to move, I'm excited because all my 'same-old' furniture will take on a new life as it finds a new home! And though we might choose to replace a few things, I'm guessing that, for the most part, we'll continue to enjoy our old favorites. And that's just fine by me.
It's a great time of the year to be sorting through, trimming down and packing up. If all goes as planned, we will be moving just as spring begins to strut her stuff. And as much as I might enjoy things that are older, I have to say there's nothing like the feeling of starting fresh.
Be it a new day, a new season. a new path ... or a new home ... Each opportunity to begin, to renew, to refresh fills my "old" heart with wonder-full new JOY!!

In many ways I envy your up coming move. I just love the sense of a new beginning and all the hope that comes with it. But, like you, I really relish the old memories and struggle to have to say goodbye. May God be with you every step as you make this transition.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have such a positive light! When we had to move from NJ to NY (which was very hard for me) my mom kept saying "we get to have a whole new adventure!"
ReplyDeleteI love new beginnings! I think this is why Monday is one of my favorite days of the week - it feels like a clean start. We moved frequently for several years and now that we've been here almost 6 years, part of me is ready to pick up and start new. But it's also nice to grow some roots here.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for a new move, but also a nice time to remember and reflect on the old. I too am in the process of moving back into my old house after being away for a few years and am quite looking forward to having a good sort out of the old and finding new things. Good luck and best wishes. X
ReplyDeletegorgeous and such a cute story!!! i haven't seen anything new around here. i'll be in the garden all day looking for your finds!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way with new things. I fall hard. ;) My husband is the exact opposite. I buy him new things and it's like he has to wait for them to get old before he feels comfortable using them.
