A Quick Call

Coming home for dinner?
    (I ask, silently counting down the days)
Don't know what we're having,
     (I tell you, wondering what my voice conveys)

Such a simple question,
Such a no frills, order in night.

Such a quick call ~

A question, a giggle and an
"I'll be home soon"
Such a familiar refrain.

Coming over for dinner?
   (I'll ask, shortly after your wedding day)
We're coming over, you'll say.
   (New, I'll think. And nice. You are now a they)
