"Clear eyes. Full heart. Can't lose."

Two things happened at my house Friday night.

1. All four of us just happened to be home for dinner!
   {with no planning}
    Meat was grilled, drinks were mixed and we caught up.
    And laughed.
    It was good.

2. We watched the last episode of  "Friday Night Lights" {sigh}
    I love this show. I will miss this show.
    The show's about football and small towns.
    About marriage and family and friendship.
    And about mentors.

When my husband played football {in a small, Oregon town} he had a 'coach Taylor' ~ a man who saw his potential and encouraged him to think big. Bigger than state. It was this coach's idea that my husband apply to Harvard. Which he did. And I'm so glad he did because that's what brought my husband to Boston...and to me!

On the TV show, when coach Taylor looks at his guys before a game and says, "Clear eyes, full hearts," they answer back, "Can't lose!" And they're talking about much more than a game. They're talking about living a focused life with a clean conscience. A life full of family and friends and a passion for something you love. His teams won some state championships. And his young men went on to overcome adversity and live richer, more productive lives due to his influence.

Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose. Sounds about right to me.

"Every man at some point in his life is going to lose a battle.
He is going to fight and he is going to lose.
But what makes him a man is that in the midst of battle
he does not lose himself."
(another Coach Taylor quote!)

  1. Great quotes! I have never watched that show, but the game parts of it used to be filmed here at our local high school. Now, based on your recommendation, I may have to check it out.

  2. Cool quote! I have only seen a couple of the shows but what I did see I liked :)

  3. Oh that's so awesome!! What a great story :) Love the quote from your man's football team... I'm going to remember that!

  4. I used to love that show but had to stop watching it when I moved. Thank goodness for I-tunes and DVD's...hopefully I will get to watch what I missed and see the last episode!

  5. great show, awesome quote.....

    family time, nothing beats it!!!!

  6. Oh I copied down both of these quotes! Sounds like a great unplanned dinner together. I love when things fall in place like that.
