"Clear eyes. Full heart. Can't lose."

Two things happened at my house Friday night.

1. All four of us just happened to be home for dinner!
   {with no planning}
    Meat was grilled, drinks were mixed and we caught up.
    And laughed.
    It was good.

2. We watched the last episode of  "Friday Night Lights" {sigh}
    I love this show. I will miss this show.
    The show's about football and small towns.
    About marriage and family and friendship.
    And about mentors.

When my husband played football {in a small, Oregon town} he had a 'coach Taylor' ~ a man who saw his potential and encouraged him to think big. Bigger than state. It was this coach's idea that my husband apply to Harvard. Which he did. And I'm so glad he did because that's what brought my husband to Boston...and to me!

On the TV show, when coach Taylor looks at his guys before a game and says, "Clear eyes, full hearts," they answer back, "Can't lose!" And they're talking about much more than a game. They're talking about living a focused life with a clean conscience. A life full of family and friends and a passion for something you love. His teams won some state championships. And his young men went on to overcome adversity and live richer, more productive lives due to his influence.

Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose. Sounds about right to me.

"Every man at some point in his life is going to lose a battle.
He is going to fight and he is going to lose.
But what makes him a man is that in the midst of battle
he does not lose himself."
(another Coach Taylor quote!)

  1. Great quotes! I have never watched that show, but the game parts of it used to be filmed here at our local high school. Now, based on your recommendation, I may have to check it out.
