Between the Raindrops

"Hold on and take a breath
I'll be here every step
Walking between the raindrops with you."
Lifehouse, Between the Raindrops

The other day I was out walking,
as I do.
Walking between the raindrops.
And I happened on this small pile of discarded belongings.
Spring cleaning?
Upcoming move?
An ending?
A new beginning?
There's a story here.
Or stories.

I found the combination of mirror and measuring stick fascinating.
Randomly tossed out.
Haphazardly thrown together.
My thoughts went something like this:
Trash
Waste
Measure
Mirror
Reflect
Hmmmm...
How much time do we waste thinking about how we measure up?
We look in the mirror and wonder.
We look around at what other's have and wonder.
We try so hard not to,
but we do spend some of our precious time
wondering
comparing
worrying
asking ourselves if we measure up.
And it's a waste.
A waste of the precious time we have.
I know that,
you know that...
and yet, we all have to fight this impulse.
This ever-present comparison temptation.

The other day,
as I was walking between the raindrops,
I had one of those
this-will-stick-with-me moments.
I think it was the visual.
As we all know,
life happens between the raindrops.
Between the beginnings and endings.
It's in between the big moves that
we write our stories.
And I don't want my in-betweens to be
filled with wasted, useless or harmful what ifs.
Or filled with things that will only turn to rubble.
Nope.
I want those moments to be filled with you.
You, my family.
You, my friends.
You.

I want you to know that I will be present
in as many moments as we can find to treasure...
I will be here,
every step of the way,
walking between the raindrops with you.
